In the fifties and sixties, pre quilted fabrics were very, very popular. They typically had a diamond pattern and they were done on plain fabrics, which were then oftentimes stamped with embroidery motifs for the homemaker to hand embroider. Now we're seeing a resurgence in pre quilted fabric and they have come with a modern twist and are often done with different types of designs, with stippling. And of course with the most loved diamond design. So in this video, working with pre quilted fabric, we're going to bring you into the latest craze in the quilting world. And we're going to make sure you know exactly how to handle pre quilted fabrics. In the first segment, what can I do with pre quilted fabric? You will learn, what is this new fabric? How do I use it, and how do you make it your own? And more importantly, how can you make your own? We also are going to teach you about straight grain binding. We're going to give you tips for measuring. We're going to show you an easy way to make it, and then we want to make sure you know exactly when to use it. And then we're going to teach you about continuous bias binding, and show you the difference between the two types of binding. We're going to show you a fast, easy method to make bias binding. And also we want to make sure you know when you should use that binding, as opposed to the straight grain binding. To make sure that you're really understanding binding we're going to start with a very simple place mat project. I want to make sure you know how to apply binding the right way so that you're starting off on the right foot, and your projects will definitely look professional. We're going to then move into the tree skirt project, using a square, converting it into an octagon that will be ready for your hand work, whether it's embroidery, applique or some other creative media, and we're going to be binding it with a continuous bias binding. After that, I want to show you a cute little dog jacket pattern that you can make. You can even make it reversible if you wish. And we're going to show you how to draft the pattern so that it fits your little Fido perfectly. Again, we use continuous bias binding to finish this cute project made from the pre quilted fabric. But I'm going to give you some tips on what you need to know about conquering curves when it comes to binding. And finally, we have a bonus project. If you love Vera Bradley bags, well this is the project for you. It uses the beautiful pre quilted fabric. The quilt is different on both sides so that it contrasts but it compliments each other. It has the straight grain binding. I'm going to show you how to make French seams, which are extremely professional touch when it comes to these kinds of bags. And we're also going to show you how to use webbing to make sure that your bag can carry the heaviest load. You'll have a place for all of your go-to stuff in this wonderful eye-catching carry all bag. So you just need to sit back and relax during class. You don't have to take notes. I've got some free PDF files that will be available for download. These files contain all of the math needed to complete the projects, along with shopping lists for each of the projects if you want to go to your local fabric store and pick up some of these wonderful pre quilted fabrics. All you have to do is watch, learn, enjoy and start being inspired for how you can use this wonderful fabric in the future.
